What is bachata?
Bachata is a partner dance from the Dominican Republic that has evolved into one of the most popular global styles. In Europe, most people dance bachata sensual, with closer positions and fluid body movements. The base is the same: three steps and a tap, left to right.
Is previous experience required?
No. Bachata First Time is for absolute beginners. Bachata Beginners is your first course. If you've only danced salsa before, you can still start here. We'll meet you where you are.
Do I need a partner?
No partner needed. We rotate in class so you practice with different people in a guided, respectful environment.
What will I learn at the start?
Basic timing, simple steps, how to connect with a partner, and the musical feel that makes bachata enjoyable on a social floor, without overwhelming you on night one.
How do I progress?
After First Time / Beginners, the natural next steps on our schedule are Bachata Improvers and, when you're ready, Bachata Traditional. Levels are marked with dots on the timetable so you can see the path.
Which class should I attend?
Start with Bachata First Time if you've never tried it, or Bachata Beginners if you're ready for a full beginner course. Both appear on the Athens class schedule with day, time and teacher.
